Abstract

This article deals with the intertextual process of transmissionand dissemination of the myth of the foundation of Lisbon by Ulysses from Portuguese Literature into English and NorthAmerican literatures mainly through travel narratives since the 12th century. It also analyses the way Anglophone authors, such as Alexander Pope (16881744),William Morgan Kinsey (17881851) and Derek Walcott (1930), have creatively updated the literarymyth.
