Dos poetas latinos aos poetas do Cancioneiro Geral: o epitáfio de Tibulo

Abstract

Using a translation of Domitius Marsus’ Tibullus’ Epitaph, we intend to contribute to the analysis of the translation of Latin texts in Portuguese. We will compare the latin poem with a translation of it compiled in the 15th‐16th century poetic anthology Cancioneiro Geral, analyzing the literary and linguistic strategies followed by the poet João Rodrigues de Sá de Meneses to convey an understandable message to its audience without tampering the original ideas of the text.
