Abstract

Staged at the beginning of the 90's of the century that has now ended, the production Antes que a Noite Venha, based on a text by Eduarda Dioni'sio, reshapes paradigmatic figures of tragic stories of ]ove and death: Juliet, Antigone, Inês de Castro and Medea. Though not fully succeeding in achieving a dramatic structure, the text is made up of independent monologues, voiced by each one of the heroines. As regards the words attributed to Antigone, Eduarda Dionísio adopts conventional aspects of the heroine as depicted in Sophocles' play, her innovative dimension being mostly ensured by the theatrical performance.
