Politics 1252a-1253a: some hitches in the reading of Aristotle

Keywords: Community, Totality, Polis, Individual, Liberty

Abstract

This paper proposes a commentary to the first two chapters of Aristotle’s Politics. Especially two statements are examined here: 1) the polis is prior by nature to the household and to each of us; and 2) being human needs the koinonia politike to accomplish itself. Both statements are contextualized bringing to the fore the inconmensurability between greek and modern thought.
