O poeta em Roma

Abstract

The image of the poet, the nature of his gift and of his functions, his relationship with the supernatural, the irrational and the human have been, ever since Greek and Latin Classicism, regarded in multiple and varied ways, both by the poet himself and by others.
Focussing especially on the first of these, and without overlooking some seminal Greek passages, we have gathered texts by Ennius, Terence, Cicero, Virgil, Horace, Tibullus, Propertius, Ovid, Petronius, Martial and Juvenal. We also include a numerical and qualitative appraisal of the references found at the time of Augustus.
