Abstract
Between 1551 and 1561, the Jesuitical priest Pedro João Perpinhão has developed an intense activity as an orator, professor and researcher in Portugal, particularly at the service of the College of the Arts which had been under the rule of the Society of Jesus since 1555. From his vast bibliography, we have chosen to focus on his biography of Queen Saint Elizabeth of Portugal, De Vita et Moribus B. Elisabethae Lusitaniae Reginae libri tres, in which he resorts to historiographic procedures which seem reminiscent of those used by Cicero who, though not a historian himself, has also reflected upon the writing of History.
